How do we learn to be creative? Or to solve problems in a creative way? Often this attributed to inspiration, a force we assume we have no control over; but it turns out there is a lot we can do to put ourselves into the right frame of mind. During a private workshop your group will learn how to tap into the creative flow.

Awareness Day Workshops
Life Drawing Workshop
Draw the human form from a live (nude or clothed) model. This fast paced workshop is all about the process and no previous drawing experience is required. Your group will create numerous drawings based on various exercises and prompts. Each pose has a time limit, and you will be given specific instructions for each drawing exercise. In the end, you can sort through your drawings and choose a few favorites to take home.
Visual Storytelling Workshop
Learn how to craft a short graphic story, resulting in a series of your own visual narratvies centered around different themes. Explore the world of visual storytelling by looking at examples of other artist work and discussing how their stories are built. Crafting stories through creative prompts and excerisies, participants will uncover the building blocks of visual communication.
Learning how to paint with watercolor will also train your mind to plan your work in advance. Yes watercolor is very strategic. Organize your tonal values and enhance your analytical skills. Watercolor can be difficult to control, but once you understand the process a structure emerges. It is within this structure that personal expression and improvisation can emerge.
Drawing Thinking Workshop
Find out why drawing is a way of thinking. Learn hands-on exercises for engaging the visual/creative side of your brain that cannot be accessed with language. The goal here is not to make a realistic drawing and you do not need to be a “talented artist” to make use of the skills we will develop. You will learn concrete, hands-on techniques to facilitate the switch from left to right brain. This is not a workshop on the concept of creativity, it is more about providing skills and techniques that one can practice and use.

Drawing with Body Movement
Body movement is used as a drawing technique, and you will use you entire range of motion to create marks, resulting in abstract process based works. It might sound like a paradox but within constraints, creativity thrives. Rules can include: a limited set of materials or colors, a specific size determined by an external factor, a restrain on body movement or technique, etc…
Drawing From Observation
Learn basic drawing techniques with a focus on drawing from observation. We will cover the basic building blocks of how to draw and how to observe accurately. Class exercises explore technique, medium and strategies in visual thinking. A perfect introduction for beginners, with new skills to be learned for the more experienced.
Discover the beauty of one of the first photography techniques invented, cyanotype – also known as a blueprint. We will take the time to explore printing on various surfaces, and object. Cyanotype is a lovely process that is simple, fun, and a flexible art-making experience.
