Workshop Description:

This workshop encourages a joyful, personal approach to painting and is suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists. Through a combination of observation, experimentation, and creative challenges, you will build confidence in your artistic decisions, learn to embrace unexpected outcomes, and discover new ways of working with acrylic paint. Along the way, you will create a collection of sketches and studies, gain practical painting skills, and develop a deeper understanding of your own creative process.

In this 6 week workshop, you will explore unconventional ways to paint, combining conceptual, abstract and figurative elements. Guided by artist and facilitator Juancar, each class has experimental exercises and guided practice, for you to gain tools and resources to break away from traditional representation, and develop a more expressive visual language.

Topics Covered:

  • Observation and the eye–hand connection through painting from life
  • Creativity and visual experimentation
  • Abstract composition inspired by Cubism, Abstract Expressionism, and Art Brut
  • Expressive acrylic painting and mark-making techniques
  • Development of a personal artistic approach
  • Resolving a painting through individual feedback and critique

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is open to all levels. Beginners are welcome to join, and Juancar will support you with individual feedback. For the more experienced, there will be a variety of techniques for you to experiment with and combine. If you’re curious about pushing your artistic boundaries, no matter what level you are starting at, this is a guided and inspiring space to do so.
