Materials: Watercolors, brushes and paper are provided, but if you have your own watercolors and brushes, feel free to bring them.
What to Expect:
Create watercolor paintings using a direct and expressive approach that combines the spontaneity of sketching with color and light. Learn how to get started with watercolors, how to combine colors effectively and basic layering techniques. Watercolor can be a very efficient and fun medium, but it can also be a tricky medium to get started in. Learn from an expert and start with tried and true techniques to keep the process flowing. The beauty of watercolor can already come across through simple still life objects, such as fruit or flowers, when we focus on light effects or color combinations.
Would you like to be able to create colorful watercolors from your everyday life, from your travels, or even from your imagination? Each class will have a different subject matter and will cover different variations on the combination of line a wash. Tora will demonstrate each new technique and provide hands on assistance within a small class size.

The workshop takes place in the Denizen co-working space on Köpenicker Str. 40.

About Your Instructor:
Tora Aghabayova is an Azerbaijani multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Formally trained as a painter with a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Azerbaijani State Art Academy. She also has over 13 years of teaching experience having taught at Azerbaijani State Art Academy, and Expat Learning Centre in, Shanghai, China.
Tora has experimented with performance and video art at the onset of her career. Her performance piece in a format of a video installation entitle ‘Mood’ was on display at the first Azerbaijani pavilion exhibition at the Venice Biennial in 2007. In her most recent series of paintings entitles “Nonexistent Myths” Tora revisits and reinvents scenes from biblical mythology. While incorporating elements of surrealism and dark humour, Tora is subtly mocking the piousness and religiosity of the Rennissance epoch art.
Oded Arad is an Israeli artist, living and working from Berlin. He is an MFA graduate of Hito Steyerl’s class at the Berlin University of the Arts (UDK). The media he uses vary from painting, drawings, an experimental film that he writes, produces and directs. His works are mainly concerned with the themes of memory, the grotesque and humor, and have been exhibited in Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Israel. Oded is currently working on graphic novel.
During his workshops he wants to discover together with his students their specific way of expressing themselves, or the way they see the world.
